All the objects around us have three dimensions – they have height, width and depth. But when we look at the same object in a picture, a diagram or even a photograph, we can see just its height and width. This course explores the concepts of 2D and 3D and shows you how to read and use 2D representations of 3D objects. It begins by explaining why three or more views are necessary to provide all the details of a 3D object. It shows you how to create a ‘bird’s eye’ or plan view and how to show vertical surfaces using side views. You’ll learn how to combine these different views together to create an overall impression of a 3D object and how to draw a net to represent a 3D object in a slightly different way. Finally, the course looks at the special rules of drawing and problem solving using parallel lines As you move through the course, mini tests let you check that you’ve understood the learning and give you the chance to practise your new space and shape skills in realistic, everyday situations. This course is available as a downloadable workbook for you to print. The workbook has spaces for you to fill in the answers with your own drawings and diagrams.
