Everyday Maths Skills - Common Measures (Level 1)This course follows Susi and Jason as they calculate with measures in their gardening business. It explores the skills they need to measure money, time, length, distance, weight, capacity, temperature, perimeters, areas and volumes.

From solving everyday money problems to converting imperial measurements to their metric equivalents, from working out the perimeter of a rectangle to calculating the area of irregular shapes, the course is packed with practical tips, techniques and advice to help you measure more easily and more accurately.

As you move through the course, mini tests let you check that you’ve understood the learning and give you the chance to practise your new measuring skills in realistic, everyday situations.

What will you learn?

After finishing this course you will be able to:

  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide money using a calculator
  • Understand calendars, dates, 12-hour and 24-hour times
  • Measure length, weight and capacity
  • Convert measurements between metric and imperial systems
  • Measure, read and compare temperature
  • Calculate the perimeter, area and volume of different shapes
