Everyday Maths Skills - Fractions, Decimals & Percentages (Level 1) PDF Print E-mail

Once you’ve grasped the basics of using fractions, decimals and percentages, you’ll be able to make sense of and compare a huge range of different numbers. This course follows Jo, who works as a classroom assistant in a primary school, as she uses fractions, decimals and percentages in her job.

The course begins by looking at fractions. It explains the concepts of equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, mixed numbers and improper fractions. Then it explores decimals and gives you new techniques to add, subtract, multiply and divide them, both with and without a calculator. The course also explains percentages – what they are, how they relate to fractions and decimals and how to solve everyday percentage problems.

As you move through the course, mini tests let you check that you’ve understood the learning and give you the chance to practise your new fraction, decimal and percentage skills in realistic, everyday situations.
