Everyday Maths Skills - Whole Numbers (Level 1) PDF Print E-mail

Working with whole numbers crops up in all sorts of everyday situations: at work, at home, at college, at the supermarket, out with friends. This course will help you to brush up on the skills you need to deal with larger whole numbers.

The course begins by looking at ‘place value’. You’ll learn how to use zero as a ‘place holder’, how to keep track of all the digits when ordering large numbers and how a number line can help you to make sense of negative numbers. The course explores new strategies such as partitioning and decomposition to help you add, subtract, multiply and divide large numbers. And you’ll learn how factors, sequences, ratios and proportions can be used to compare numbers and solve everyday number problems.

As you move through the course, mini tests let you check that you’ve understood the learning and give you the chance to practise your new number skills in realistic, everyday situations.
