Every day we read many different types of text. Some, like emails, and signs, are very short and to the point. Others, such as business letters or leaflets, are longer and more complicated. This course will help you to develop the skills you need to read different types of longer texts. You’ll learn how to identify the main points of a long text so that you can decide whether the text is important or if it contains the information you’re looking for. You’ll be shown how to uncover the details so that you understand the text better. You learn about the different features of explanations, instructions, descriptions and persuasive texts. And you’ll develop new reading strategies like skimming, scanning, detailed reading and picture reading to help you to find the information you need quickly and easily As you move through the course, mini tests let you check that you’ve understood the learning and give you the chance to practise your new reading skills in realistic, everyday situations.
